About

One operator you can name. A network you do not have to manage.

Benjamin Taft, lead operator at Lensdrone

Benjamin Taft

Lead operator and point of contact

Lensdrone is run by Benjamin Taft. Ben has been flying commercially for 10 years, holds the Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate, and has completed hundreds of jobs across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Clients have included Facebook, NRG, Larco, Arno Matis Architecture and Canadian Tire dealers.

He is also a 360 specialist, which is why interior site walks and aerial panoramas are on this site as proper services rather than add-ons.

The company is incorporated in Canada and insured for commercial RPAS operations. When you call, you reach Ben. When you email, he replies. When something on a job needs a decision, he makes it.

How work outside Ben's reach gets done

Canada is large. For a site Ben cannot reach himself on your timeline, Lensdrone dispatches a subcontracted operator he has vetted for licence, insurance and experience, briefed on your site, flying to the same capture plan and delivering through the same QA. You deal with one company and get one invoice. Lensdrone is the operator of record and stays accountable for the result.

It is not a marketplace and it is not a directory. It is one company that says yes to the whole country and means it.

How it works

No pilots to hire, no hardware to buy, no paperwork to learn.

  1. 01

    Scoping call

Fifteen minutes on what the site is, what you need, who reads the output and when. You get a scope and a price.

  2. 02

    Licensed operator on site

Airspace authorised, site briefing attended, capture flown to the agreed plan. Recurring visits repeat it exactly.

  3. 03

    Data delivered, checked

Files organised, named and checked against the spec, into your folder or your platform.

With Lensdrone, or in-house

What you are actually buying

With LensdroneDoing it in-house
HardwareNone to buy, insure, maintain or replace when the next model ships. An aircraft, spares, batteries, a thermal payload if you need one, and the replacement cycle.
CertificationAdvanced RPAS certificate held, kept current, and the airspace authorisations requested for each site.An employee studies, tests, keeps a flight log and requests authorisations on top of their actual job.
InsuranceCommercial RPAS liability, with a certificate naming your company.A rider on your policy, if your insurer will write one, with exclusions you find out about later.
ConsistencySame positions, same spec, same delivery format every visit. A ten year habit.Whoever was free that day, from wherever they stood, whenever they remembered.
Someone accountableOne operator of record. If the capture is wrong, it is recaptured. If a flight is questioned, there is a log.A drone in a truck and a question about who signed off on the flight.

Safety and compliance

The process on every job

Airspace checked and authorised before the date is confirmed. Site orientation attended. Pre-flight checks logged. Flight logged. Files checked before delivery. It is not exciting, which is the point.

  • Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate

The advanced certificate is the one that permits flight in controlled airspace and near people. Every operator Lensdrone dispatches holds it.

  • Commercial liability insurance

Insured for commercial RPAS operations. Certificate of insurance available on request, naming your company where required.

  • NAV CANADA airspace authorisation

Controlled airspace near airports needs authorisation before each flight. We handle the request and build the lead time into scheduling.

  • SFOC where needed

Some operations, such as flights over 122 m or beyond visual line of sight, need a Special Flight Operations Certificate. We tell you up front if your job needs one and manage the application.

  • Site safety briefing

We attend your site orientation, follow your PPE and access rules, and brief your team on where and when we are flying.

Coverage
